Terms of Use

Novelmetrics is a novel-writing editor with an experimental provenance system. The editor stores your manuscript, its structure and settings. The provenance system stores a detailed history intended to help show how text developed inside Novelmetrics.

Novelmetrics is in beta. Features may change, fail or be withdrawn. Provenance checks, reader permissions and shareable reports are not yet generally available.

By creating an account and writing in Novelmetrics, you expressly ask us to record and process a detailed history of your work. That history can include the words in your manuscript; ordered edits and their apparent source, such as typing, pasting, cutting, undoing, formatting or programmatic changes; selections; timestamps; writing sessions; browser and timezone context; document versions; cryptographic hashes; continuity gaps; and technical delivery records.

This recording is a core part of the service, not optional analytics. If you do not want this history created, do not use Novelmetrics to write confidential or sensitive material. Novelmetrics does not intentionally monitor what you do outside its editor.

You authorise Novelmetrics to analyse your writing history with automated systems to operate, secure and improve provenance features. We will not make a provenance report public on your behalf.

When sharing tools become available, you may choose to give a person or organisation access to a report or relevant history for authorship review. You are responsible for whom you invite, what you share and whether you have the right to share it. A recipient may draw their own conclusions.

Provenance review is designed to be machine-first, not a routine human reading service. We do not sell your manuscript, use it to train generative AI models or invite staff to read it for editorial purposes.

We cannot promise that no human will ever access a word. A limited number of authorised operators or service providers may access data when necessary to provide support you request, investigate security or abuse, maintain the service, comply with law or protect rights and safety. Access should be limited to what the task requires.

You keep ownership of the content you write. You give Novelmetrics a limited licence to host, copy, process and transmit that content only as needed to provide, secure and improve the service.

You must use an account you are authorised to use, keep its credentials secure and avoid unlawful content, abuse, interference, automated attacks or attempts to access another writer's work. You should keep an independent export or backup of work you cannot afford to lose.

Provenance records are supporting evidence. They may show the sequence, continuity and character of work performed in Novelmetrics. They are not a guarantee of identity, originality, copyright ownership, non-AI authorship or acceptance by a publisher, school, competition or other reviewer.

Interruptions, unsupported browsers, offline storage limits, software defects and work done outside Novelmetrics can create gaps. The service is designed to mark known gaps rather than conceal them.

The beta is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis to the extent permitted by law. We do not warrant uninterrupted availability, permanent storage or a particular verification result. Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or liabilities that cannot lawfully be excluded.

We may suspend access needed to protect users or the service. If these Terms materially change, we will post an updated version and, where appropriate, ask you to accept it.
